Buszuwski Named Chief Operating Officer For American Nurses Association

Silver Spring, MD - Mary L. Buszuwski has been named chief operating officer (COO) of the American Nurses Association (ANA). ANA is the largest professional organization for registered nurses (RNs), a federation of 54 constituent nurses associations representing the interests of the nation's 2.9 million RNs.

As COO, Buszuwski will be responsible for all of ANA's business operations including finance and accounting, administration and information technology. In addition, she will play a key role on the executive leadership team whose priorities include increasing membership and expanding non dues revenue.

"Mary Buszuwski is an accomplished executive who has demonstrated strong leadership and strategic vision," said ANA Chief Executive Officer Linda J. Stierle, MSN, RN, CNAA,BC. "We are pleased to have found an individual with Buszuwski's extensive experience in financial and operations management. She will be a significant asset to ANA."

Buszuwski most recently served as Chief Operating Officer for Melwood Training Center. She was responsible for leading over 500 employees in providing vocational training, employment services, residential house and leisure programs for over 2100 disabled individuals throughout the metropolitan Washington DC area. Under Buszuwski's leadership, Melwood increased the number of disabled individuals served by over six percent in the first year, obtained $1.5 million in state funding for new facilities and renovations, and spearheaded a cost containment program to achieve over three quarters of a million dollars in savings from consolidating contracts and centralization of services.

Previously, Buszuwski served in a variety of positions with the American Red Cross in Washington DC. As the Executive Officer of Business Operations and Consulting, she directed over 200 staff and volunteers in improving operations and performance among the 1,000 chapters nationwide. She also brings almost 10 years of commercial banking experience in strategic planning, financial analysis and mergers and acquisitions.

Buszuwski is a member of the Public Policy Committee of the Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations (MANO). She earned a master's of business administration from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and her bachelor of arts in English Literature from Boston College.
