Nurses in work groups discuss case scenarios |
Practical strategies were presented to improve the school nurses’ skills in prevention, early detection and management of foodborne illnesses in schools. Activities in the workshop include conducting a focused nursing assessment for a suspected foodborne illness, establishing school – community collaboration and responding to real-life scenarios. The workshop was well received and trainers plan to replicate the workshop in 13 states or districts in the next year. |
The workshop was led by FSS project director, Elaine Brainerd, and co-presenters; Elizabeth Bugden, Kids First, RI and Linda Caldart-Olson, Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Presenters from CDC Food-Safety Partners included, Julie Skolmowski, American School Food Service Association/Child Nutrition Foundation (ASFSA/CNF) and Tom Dickey, National Environmental Health Association (NEHA).
