ANA's Constituent Assembly Supports Striking NursesConstituent Assembly Letter of Support for the Striking Nurses of Nyack Hospital April 17, 2000 Dear Nyack Nurses, On April 7-8, 2000 the constituent members (Presidents and Executive Directors of the states and the newly formed Federal Nurses Association) of the American Nurses Association met for a special Constituent Assembly meeting in Washington, DC. During this meeting we discussed your strike and the courageous step you have taken on behalf of patients and nurses. Know that nurses across this country support you!
It has been a long strike and you have shown remarkable strength and unity in this strike. We know that you are on that line on behalf of your bargaining unit, NYSNA, ANA, and all registered nurses to advocate for safe patient care and adequate working conditions for nurses.
The constituent members are concerned for you and your families and the patients who are without your services. We commend your for your commitment to high standards in advancing ANA's core issues. While you are advocating for patient safety , you are also advancing our cause with workplace rights, appropriate staffing and workplace health and safety.
In addition to money that was collected for your strike fund, know that we join with you in making public the fact that nurses are advocating for patients to received the care they deserve. Additionally, some of our members plan to join you on the picket line to demonstrate support.
We are eager to help you in helping our patients.
