ANA Publishes Last Work of the Late Margretta Madden Styles
07/13/06
ANA dedicates this final work of Margretta Madden Styles, past president of ANA and ICN to nurses around the world, who struggle each day to provide the highest level of service and caring to their patients. Gretta Styles was a remarkable woman who saw the world as full of possibilities. She loved nursing and spent a career advancing it through education, defining specialty practice, credentialing, policy development, and organizational leadership. Nursing Speaks for Itself is her last major solo work.
In 2003 ANA commissioned the late Gretta Styles and ANA Policy Analyst Cheryl Peterson to examine the nursing workforce and the implication of the nursing shortage for both patient safety and the sustainability of the profession. That collaboration formed the basis for this booklet and set the stage for an upcoming (2007) book that will examine the nursing shortage in detail. 2006/15pp.
