National League for Nursing Carries 0n - 2001 Education Summit

We thank you for planning to attend the 2001 NLN Education Summit.

All people of this great nation were thrust into an unexpected and unwanted new journey by the horrific evil event that befell our nation on Tuesday. Individually and collectively we are in great shock and overpowering grief for the loss of lives and the loss of our innocence regarding the invincibility of our homeland from such acts of carnage.

Each of us is making personal decisions about what we can and must do to aid in our own healing and the healing of others and to demonstrate to the world and specifically the perpetrators of this terrorist act that though they can cause human carnage and destroy our buildings they cannot destroy the soul and spirit of our nation and its people. To that end we at NLN have chosen to continue with the 2001 Education Summit.

Though our headquarters building is closed because we are but four blocks from "ground zero" and our staff were eye witnesses to the surreal scene of the mass destruction there is unanimity in commitment to the Summit . We believe that at our summit in Nashville we demonstrated that when we came together we created a caring community that nurtures the soul along with the intellect and because of that we must offer this Summit to you our registrants and indeed for ourselves.

It is our hope that you as one of the registrants to our Summit can make attendance at this national meeting one of the acts you can undertake in symbolism of the solidarity and unity of our national community.

May you be safe in the arms of care where ever that may be.

Sincerely,
Nancy F. Langston, President
Ruth D. Corcoran, Chief Executive Officer

To you and all the American nurses,
Tuesday 11th September 2001 was the darkest day not only to the USA but the whole world. We the nurses of Kenya right now holding our Annual Scientific Conference and General meeting. We are profoundly shocked by heinous and violent attack metted out on innocent people.

With out experience in Kenya where the American Embassy was attacked on 7/8/1998 we know that the American Nurses are under an extra load, pressure and even risk. We observed a minute of silence that God may console the bereaved and give the NURSES strength.

And we continue to say May God help you hang on to your faith!

The LORD is always with you and we are with you in thought and prayer.

Donald Cephas Epaalat
PRESIDENT
NATIONAL NURSES ASSOCIATION OF KENYA
P.O. Box 49422

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Do not feel isolated or alone as there is tremendous support for you from the other side of the world in Australia.

Having visited the WTC, Boston & Washington, I am aware of the size of the geographical disaster. The magnitude of the human disaster is incomprehesable, but I am sure that will not deter you from trying to give your best to your patients and colleagues.

May God bless you all now and in the future particularly during the times of rehabilitation of both body and spirit.

Helen Donaldson
Melbourne, Australia

Kenyans sympathy, affection and care is with the people of U.S.A. We are aware of how inundated with an outpouring of outrage & messages of support will be dispatched to American Nurses Association.

Please send my personal message as above to the President of ANA. The NNAK will do in 3-4 days. It is hardly 4 years that nurses in Kenya were dealing with what we felt was the worst ever disaster in history. It was the day of the 43rd Scientific conference of NNAK. So, a "minute of silence" was observed. Official messages have been sent to our Ambassador.

We the members and staff of the Trinidad and Tobago Registered Nurses Association were deeply moved by the graphic, televised scenes of the savage attack being made on America. A traumatic event which resulted in massive destruction of administrative buildings, severe loss of lives and several presumed dead.

We were indeed devastated by the tragic events as they unfolded, but were heartened by the high level of professionalism displayed by nursing personnel, other health care workers, fire officers and policemen during this major disaster.

The citizens of Trinidad and Tobago shared your anxiety and fear, particularly those who had relatives working in the buildings affected.

We applaud the patriotism of your fellow citizens, who spontaneously volunteered their services to assist wherever possible.

September 11, 2001 would remain indelibly engraved in all of our memories.

May God continue to guide and protect you especially at this time of service to the people of America.

Love and best wishes.

Yours sincerely
Yvonne Pilgrim
Executive Director
Trinidad and Tobago Registered Nurses Association

Colleagues, we, at the Royal College of Nursing, feel the incredible weight of loss, concern and fear for a world where atrocities can happen so quickly, with such preciseness and in such an overwhelming magnitude of destruction. Personally, as an American, I send my heart to my sisters and brothers, nurses and colleagues in every state, city and town. May healing and peace be yours--in fact, may we all heal and be at peace with one another.

September 11, 2001 will be a day the world will never forget. With horror we learnt of the tragedy in New York and Washington, DC. Through the media we are following the situation closely and our thoughts go to the thousand of families, who have lost family members or in other ways have been touched by the disaster. Please accept our deep felt condolences.

The tragedy has hit the US but it has impact on the rest of world. In Denmark, people are visibly shaken, and all flags are on half to show respect for the sorrow of the American people.

We know the number of wounded and dead is still uncertain, but it is apparent that for a long time nursing expertise will be needed to assist people in recovering from the physical and psychological injuries suffered in connection with tragedy. May your nurses have strength to cope with catastrophe, the kind of which we have never seen before.

Our thoughts will be with you in these difficult days.

Yes, it is such a sad atrocity to happen to any country and I still feel like it is really another disaster movie that I am watching. My heart goes out to not only the American families but to all other nations involved who would have been working in the twin towers and surrounding areas at the time. Also, to the families of the passengers on board all flights, may god have been with u during this horrific experience.

It is a real disaster to mankind and such a disappointing reaction from our Arabic neighbours. I cannot comprehend such an inhuman response from people such as the Palestinians to have been delighted with such tragedy. I wonder if they are really human at all, living on the same planet as ourselves.

I pray and send my condolences to all concerned and for all future disasters waiting to happen especially however to those who give their lives to save others.

Wish I was there to help.

I would like to express our deepest sympathy with the american people.

Sincerely,
Isabel Cruz, RN, PhD

Thanks for the mail. My condolences to the families and friend of the deceased and victims of the disaster my prayers go for them. I'm sorry I will not be able to assist as I over here in London; I wish I could be there for all the needy.

I would like to extend my condolences to all in America. I know how well you all stick together and fight as one. Good on you. I know I speak for nurses in Australia when I say good luck and we are all praying for you. I was working in emergency when the horror was unfolding and all were shocked, lost for words and extreme sadness covered the department. I wish I could be there to help even in a small way.
