ADVISORY OPINION
Performance of Massage Therapy By Registered Nurses

The South Dakota Board of Nursing affirms that the practice of massage therapy is consistent with the legal definition of the registered nurse and the licensed practical nurse, under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician, as defined in SDCL Chapter 36-9 and ARSD Chapter 20:48.

This opinion was rendered by the Board of Nursing upon submission of a written request. Although advisory opinions are not judicially reviewable and do not have the force and effect of law, they do serve as a guideline for nurses who wish to engage in safe nursing practices. This advisory opinion was adopted by the South Dakota Board of Nursing during its January 31-February 1, 1996 meeting.
