AMERICAN NURSES FOUNDATION AWARDS NURSING RESEARCH GRANTS
New Grants Will Be Awarded in 1999

Washington, DC -- The American Nurses Foundation (ANF) Board of Trustees recently announced the awarding of 22 grants totaling approximately $82,000 under the 1998 Nursing Research Grants Program. The program is designed to encourage registered nurses with a baccalaureate or higher degree in nursing to pursue and develop careers in nursing research. The grants are supported by contributions from individuals and organizations wishing to invest in nursing research that supports the entire nursing profession and benefits health care consumers. The awardees and the name of the award each person received, their university affiliation, and their research topic are listed in the attachment.

In January, ANF will announce new grants for the 1999 Nursing Research Grants Program and the application packet will be available. To be added to the mailing list, call the ANF Grants Hotline, (202) 651-7298. For general information regarding Nursing Research Grants, contact Kimberly Jones, ANF acting operations manager, (202) 651-7229 or kjones@ana.org. The application and other materials will also be available on the ANF web-site: www.nursingworld.org/anf.

###

The American Nurses Association is the only full-service professional organization representing the nation’s 2.6 million Registered Nurses through its 53 constituent associations. ANA advances the nursing profession by fostering high standards of nursing practice, promoting the economic and general welfare of nurses in the workplace, projecting a positive and realistic view of nursing, and by lobbying the Congress and regulatory agencies on health care issues affecting nurses and the public.

The American Nurses Foundation is the research and education arm of ANA. In support of ANA, the mission of ANF is to promote the health of the public and advance the nursing profession through the development and support of programs of excellence. ANF is a non-profit charitable organization established in 1955. The foundation is supported by contributions from individuals, nursing organizations, corporations, and foundations concerned with our nation’s health care.
