Latex Allergy, an Occupational Hazard, Affects 1 in 10 Registered Nurses
WHAT:

"National Rubber/Latex Allergy: Recognition, Treatment and Prevention" a live, interactive satellite video conference featuring a panel of 18 internationally recognized experts. Speakers will provide an overview on the identification, management and prevention of this allergy, which is one of the newest and still unabated occupational hazards. |
WHO:

The satellite video conference is produced by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Center for Devices and Radiological Health and is co- sponsored by the American Nurses Association and many other organizations, including: the American Dental Association, the American Medical Association, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. |

WHY:

Latex allergy affects about one in 10 of all Registered Nurses, and many other health care professionals, and can result in serious health problems. Symptoms and severity ranges from dermatitis to asthma and anaphylaxis (increased allergic susceptibility due to previous exposure). Health care professionals routinely exposed to natural rubber and latex will be encouraged to phone and fax in questions throughout the broadcast. |
