ANA Calls On Newly Elected Leaders To Address Health Care Needs Of The NationWashington, DC -- The American Nurses Association (ANA) today offered congratulations to President-elect George W. Bush following the resolution of questions surrounding the election and Vice President Al Gore's concession. ANA also expressed appreciation to the vice president for his support for nursing throughout his years of public service and especially during the Clinton-Gore Administration and the presidential campaign. The American Nurses Association had endorsed Gore in the recent campaign. "Nurses across the country are eager to begin work with the new Bush Administration and the new Congress to find solutions to the urgent health care needs of the nation," said Mary E. Foley, MS, RN, president of the American Nurses Association. "With a deepening crisis relating to shortages of nurses at the bedside and the health and safety of nurses and their patients, ANA will be in the forefront of efforts to bring together stakeholders, consumers and policymakers in the coming months to address these urgent problems." # # # The American Nurses Association is the only full-service professional organization representing the nation's 2.6 million Registered Nurses through its 54 constituent associations. ANA advances the nursing profession by fostering high standards of nursing practice, promoting the economic and general welfare of nurses in the workplace, projecting a positive and realistic view of nursing, and by lobbying the Congress and regulatory agencies on health care issues affecting nurses and the public.
