Fisher Named Finance Director of American Nurses Association
Washington, DC -- Lawrence R. Fisher, CPA, who has more than 25 years' diverse financial and accounting experience, has been named director of finance of the American Nurses Association (ANA). ANA is the oldest and largest professional organization for registered nurses (RNs), a federation of 54 constituent nurses associations representing the interests of the nation's 2.7 million RNs. As finance director, Fisher will be responsible for all of the financial services for ANA and its three related entities – the American Academy of Nursing, the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the American Nurses Foundation. In addition, he will play a key role on the executive leadership team whose priorities include increasing membership and non dues revenue. Fisher most recently served as director of finance at the Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association in Washington, DC. In that role, he led the association staff to the selection of an Association Management System to improve productivity, and stabilized and enhanced accounting operations by formalizing accounting practices, fiscal policies and procedures, and developing a new contract policy. Fisher has also served as chief financial officer of America's Community Bankers in Washington, DC. In that role, he managed investments of $32 million and implemented an asset allocation program moving association funds into a diversified portfolio of equities and fixed income mutual funds. "We are fortunate to have recruited an individual with Fisher's background and proven track record in financial management," said ANA Chief Operating Officer William Powers, BA, MBA, FACHE. "He will be a great asset to ANA." Fisher received his master's degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, and his bachelor's from Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, OH. He maintains several professional affiliations, including as a member of the Board of Directors and DC chapter president, 1999-2000, of the Financial Executives International, and as a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is also a member of the Board of Directors and chairman of the Investment Committee of First Financial Trust Company, and a past member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Meridian International Center. # # # The American Nurses Association is the only full-service professional organization representing the nation's 2.7 million Registered Nurses through its constituent member nurses associations. The ANA advances the nursing profession by fostering high standards of nursing practice, promoting the rights of nurses in the workplace, projecting a positive and realistic view of nursing, and by lobbying the Congress and regulatory agencies on health care issues affecting nurses and the public.
