American Nurses Foundation Elects Board of Trustees PresidentANF Members Elect Other Board of Trustees MembersWashington, DC -- William L. Holzemer, PhD, RN, FAAN, has been elected to serve as the 2002-2004 president of the American Nurses Foundation (ANF) Board of Trustees. ANF, a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association (ANA), exists to promote the health of the public and advance the nursing profession through the development and support of programs of excellence. In addition to Holzemer, other nurse leaders elected to serve two-year terms were Linda Gobis, JD, RN, FNP, vice president; Janice E. Bussert, BSN, RN, treasurer; and Barbara Reck, secretary. As president, Holzemer has indicated he "plans to support a successful capital campaign; focus the work of ANF on core issues; secure sufficient resources to support solutions to the nurse staffing crisis; provide adequate research support for investigators to contribute to the knowledge base for nursing practice; and facilitate the influence of ANF and its resources in supporting the work of ANA and other nursing organizations." In addition to the newly elected officers, the ANF Board of Trustees members include Mary L. Behrens, MSN, RN, FNP-C; Kathleen Buckwalter, PhD, RN, FAAN; Rose Constantino, PhD, JD, RN, FAAN, FACFE; Barbara J. Holtzclaw, PhD, RN, FAAN; Mary A. Maryland, PhD, RN, APRN,BC, ANP; Pamela A. Paul-Shaheen, DrPH, FACHE; Patricia W. Underwood, PhD, RN; and Margarete L. Zalon, PhD, RN, APRN,BC. "The staff of the American Nurses Foundation looks forward to working with the ANF Board of Trustees in fulfilling our mission of developing programs that support nurses and enhance the field of nursing," said Leo Schargorodski, director, ANF. Working with the ANA and other national organizations, ANF provides leadership to offer solutions to the emerging nursing shortage and the current staffing crisis in patient care. In addition, ANF strives to continue to build the nursing knowledge base for quality patient care. Through its philanthropic activities, ANF makes awards to ANA, other national nursing organizations and nurse scientists to enhance quality patient care. ANF also provides donors with opportunities to establish a legacy of caring and support for nurses and nursing care. ANF's goals include advocating for the health of the public, the nursing profession and the strategies and programs of the ANF; expanding its Nursing Research Grants program; serving as a national conduit for scholarships that will promote entry into nursing and educational development within the profession; ensuring that multifaceted issues of cultural competency and ethnic diversity are addressed through its programs; and increasing and sustaining the commitment of donors supporting ANF's work. # # # The American Nurses Association is the only full-service professional organization representing the nation's 2.7 million registered nurses (RNs) through its constituent member state nurses associations.
