"Nursing on the Move" - ANA Breaks Ground for New HeadquartersWashington, DC -- Yesterday, ANA held a groundbreaking ceremony in Silver Spring, MD, for its new corporate headquarters at 8515 Georgia Avenue. The new facility is part of a one-million square foot public-private redevelopment plan for downtown Silver Spring. Montgomery County Executive Doug Duncan, Maryland State Senator Ida Ruben, and representatives of PFA, developers of the projects, joined ANA leaders and staff for the ceremony. "We are very excited about being a part of the great renaissance in downtown Silver Spring," said ANA President Barbara A. Blakeney, MS, APRN, BC, ANP. "There is an energy here that we know will be attractive to our membership and our employees." Duncan welcomed ANA's move to Silver Spring, noting the association's proud and rich history. "We are excited to welcome such a prestigious and progressive association," he said. Duncan also presented Blakeney with a proclamation declaring May 6-12 National Nurses Week in Montgomery County. Blakeney noted that ANA is an equity investor in the building, bringing it one step closer to achieving the goals of the "Nursing on the Move" Campaign, launched in 1990, to consolidate ANA's operations in one headquarters location in the national capital region and to have ownership in its building. ANA will occupy approximately 50,000 feet in the new structure and joins the Discovery Channel in its move to Silver Spring. ANA's official move is planned for late summer 2004. # # # ANA is the only full-service professional organization representing the nation's 2.7 million Registered Nurses through its 54 constituent associations. ANA advances the nursing profession by fostering high standards of nursing practice, promoting the economic and general welfare of nurses in the workplace, projecting a positive and realistic view of nursing, and by lobbying the Congress and regulatory agencies on health care issues affecting nurses and the public.
