Avera Mckennan Hospital Nursing Executive Receives National Award For InnovationWashington, DC --The American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), with sponsorship from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, recently awarded its Organizational Innovation Nurse Director Award to Carla Borchadt, MS, RN, BC, director of professional practice at Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This national award is presented to a nurse manager/director who has been an "architect of change" within their organization in the areas of work environment, image development, care delivery systems and strategic relationships. Among many other roles, Carla is the administrative advisor to the Nurse Governance Council, serving as its advocate and mentor. She developed the Professional Nursing Achievement Program, which rewards nurses for outstanding patient care. In addition, Ms. Borchadt has been instrumental in encouraging national certification for nurses and recognizing nurses who have achieve such certification. According to her nomination letter, "If all nursing leaders had Carla's qualities and attributes, nurses could practice in a professional nursing environment that respects and honors the art and science of nursing while maintaining positive patient outcomes." "Carla is a true complement to the nursing profession. We were pleased to sponsor an award that recognizes achievement in nursing leadership, helping to foster optimum nursing environments," stated Cecilia F. Mulvey, PhD, RN, president of the ANCC Board of Directors.
