Speaking out: Two nurses tell their stories

Across the country, nurses are blowing the whistle on workplace conditions that jeopardize patients and staff. Some nurses are protected by special whistleblower legislation, while others are not. But the movement to speak out is gaining momentum, and nurses who already have put themselves on the line are hoping that it will continue to grow. In fact, they are counting on it.

ANA House says 'no more' to mandatory overtime

With an eye toward ensuring safe patient care, as well as improving working conditions for RNs, the more than 600 nurses attending ANA's House of Delegates (HOD) overwhelmingly passed recommendations that focused on three hot issues -- appropriate staffing, mandatory overtime and preventing system-based medical errors.

Representing their constituent member associations (CMAs), the nurses acted on a range of issues important to nursing in their role as delegates to the HOD, which was held in conjunction with ANA's convention in Indianapolis.
