Academy program wins award

The American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) has awarded the American Academy of Nursing (AAN), an affiliate of the ANA, a place on its 2002 Associations Advance America Honor Roll in recognition of the John A. Hartford Foundation's Building Academic Geriatric Nursing Capacity Program, which the Academy coordinates.

"The American Academy of Nursing's program truly embodies the spirit of the Associations Advance America campaign. It is an honor and inspiration to showcase this activity as an example of the many contributions associations are making to advance American society," remarked ASAE President Michael S. Olson, CAE.

Now in its 12th year, the prestigious Associations Advance America Awards program recognizes associations that propel America forward with innovative projects in education, skills training, standards-setting, business and social innovation, knowledge creation, citizenship and community service.

In other news about the Building Academic Geriatric Nursing Capacity Program, its Advisory and Selection Committee added 22 new scholars to the program: 11 pre-doctoral, nine post-doctoral and the first 2 MBA scholars. Program Director Claire M. Fagin, PhD, RN, FAAN, underscores the significance of building scholarly and research capacity, as well as nursing leadership in the business sector: "The MBA Scholars will integrate their gerontological, clinical and research backgrounds with business management skills, allowing them to design and implement systematic changes needed in care delivery."

Applications for the 2003 pre- and post-doctoral scholar awards are now available on the Web site: www.geriatricnursing.org. Applications for the 2003 MBA scholar award will soon be available on the site. For more information, contact Shevan Bruce at sbruce@ana.org or (202) 651-7242.
