Turn on the political power at ANA's Convention

ANA's Government Affairs (GOVA) Department will be holding numerous activities during ANA's Convention in Philadelphia, June 29-July 2, to help nurses get politically connected to the 2002 elections.

Saturday, June 29

Welcome to Club USO. Join ANA-PAC for three exciting events in one special night of entertainment!

7:30 - 8:30 p.m.: EAT - at ANA-PAC's High Donor Dessert Reception
Satisfy your appetite with a delicious pre-show dessert reception. (This event is for donors who have contributed $250 and above to ANA-PAC between Jan. 1 and June 29, 2002, or pledged to contribute $250 and above by Dec. 31, 2002.)

8:30 - 9:30 p.m.: LAUGH - with The Second City
Come join us for the hilarious, side-splitting comedy of The Second City, which will provide non-stop laughter about the day in the life of a nurse. A must see for everyone in the profession. Come see the latest additions to The Second City cast. All proceeds benefit ANA-PAC. Alumni of The Second City include Alan Alda, Anne Meara, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, John Belushi and Ryan Stiles.

10 p.m. - Midnight: PARTY - at the ANA-PAC Party
Let down your hair after a long day of meetings and put on your groovy dancing shoes. Enjoy music, fun and refreshments and wear your fatigues or red, white and blue.

Sunday, June 30

2-4 p.m.: State PAC Liaison's Training and Meeting
As a follow-up to the wonderful response to last's year meeting of constituent member association state PAC liaisons, ANA-PAC will host a high impact fund-raising training session to help state PACs maximize their potential. The session will also provide the opportunity for state PAC liaisons to get to know each other, learn more about ANA-PAC, and share ideas for raising money. (Invitation only.)

Monday, July 1

2-5 p.m.: Campaign Training
Get ready to work on a campaign this year. This session will provide campaign training for the modern political activist and will give volunteers the tools they need to help elect candidates to office. (Please register in advance by contacting Shari Dexter at sdexter@ana.org.)

Tuesday, July 2

10 a.m. - Noon: Political Briefing
Want the latest scoop on the 2002 elections? Get the news from one of the best in the political business. This session will be hosted by Amy Walter, U.S. House editor of The Cook Political Report, a non-partisan publication that provides analysis of presidential, U.S. Senate, House and gubernatorial races. She has also appeared on C-SPAN's "Washington Journal," CNN and ABC News, and has been quoted in numerous newspapers including The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post and The New York Times. (This event is for donors who have contributed $250 and above to ANA-PAC between Jan. 1 and June 29, 2002, or pledged to contribute $250 and above by Dec. 31, 2002.)

Throughout convention

GOVA/ANA-PAC booth

The GOVA/PAC booth will have the latest information on legislation affecting nurses on the state and national levels. In addition, you will have the opportunity to buy or pick up your tickets for all GOVA events and purchase t-shirts and lunch bags. And new this year, GOVA will be demonstrating how to communicate with your members of Congress online through its new VOCUS Web site.

The GOVA/ANA-PAC booth will be open on Friday, June 28, from 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.; Saturday, June 29, from 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Sunday, June 30, from 7 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; Monday, July 1, from 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.; and Tuesday, July 2, from 7 a.m. - 2 p.m.
