Stamp of approval
U.S. Sen. Max Cleland (D-GA) is asking his colleagues in the Senate to approve a measure that could lead to the issuance of a postage stamp commemorating nurses.
On July 31, Cleland introduced S. Res. 314, which asks the Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee to recommend to the Postmaster General that a stamp honoring RNs be issued no later than one year after the adoption of the Senate resolution.
The resolution notes that RNs "did not hesitate to respond to the extraordinarily dangerous situations resulting from the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, putting their own lives at risk and acting heroically to help save as many lives as possible in the impact zones."
Further, the resolution speaks to RNs' crucial contributions to health care across the human lifespan, and the critical need for more men and women to enter the profession.
